Luncheon Program 12:30 - 2:00 PM
Please join us in welcoming the newly posted Brazilian Ambassador, His Excellency Luiz Alberto Figueiredo Machado, as he opens our Fall Ambassador Series in Washington, DC. The Ambassador will provide updates on Brazil with an emphasis on the environmental agenda, climate change and new areas for collaboration with the United States.
With momentum building for the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Paris this December (COP21), Brazil is assuming a leadership role and urging global action by other nations. By 2030, Brazil intends a total energy matrix reach of 28% to 33% from renewable sources (electricity and biofuels) other than hydropower. Brazil has also committed to restoring and reforesting nearly 30 million acres (12 million hectares) of forest.
Complementing his expertise as Brazil’s lead negotiator during the Rio+20 Summit in 2012, Ambassador Figueiredo was directly involved in the negotiation of President Obama and President Rousseff’s joint statement on climate change. Underscoring Brazil’s commitment, President Rousseff has declared she will fight for an “ambitious” climate agreement at COP21.
Take advantage of this opportunity to engage with Ambassador Figueiredo and gain insights on:
- Brazil’s commitment to climate action, renewable energy and biodiversity
- President Rousseff’s recent U.S. visit and areas for U.S. cooperation
- A glimpse of Rio de Janeiro and the 2016 Olympics – one year away!
With the previous hosting of the 2014 World Cup and as the site for next year’s Summer Games, Brazil continues to take center stage in the world spotlight. Register now to attend this Ambassador Series Luncheon with our distinguished guest!
