2016 Nengajo New Year's Contest
Monday, November 16 - Monday, December 14, 2015, 11:59am
The Japan Information and Culture Center is proud to present our sixth annual Nengajo New Year's Card Contest! All nengajo submissions will be featured in a JICC exhibit during the month of January and the three winning designsfrom each category will be sent out as the JICC's official New Year's greeting, as well as appear in the official embassy newsletter, Japan Now. The winners will also receive a fukubukuro - a Japanese goodie bag full of fun surprises!
This year's contest will be divided into junior (0-11), youth (11-17) and adult (18+) divisions. There will be one grand prize winner and one runner-up from each category. In addition, honorable mentions will be chosen for the Most Creative and the Most Traditional designs. Designs will be judged by JICC and Embassy of Japan staff.
All nengajo submissions will be exhibited at the JICC from January 4th-29th, 2016. Visitors are welcome to stop by and see all the artwork, as well as make their own nengajo.
As 2016 is the Year of the Monkey, the nengajo design should include a monkey motif and the kanji for monkey (申) that is found in the Zodiac animal calendar, as well as the year 2016 (or Heisei 28 in the Japanese calendar). Before submitting your nengajo though, please read the official rules and the history of the tradition on the JICC website.
