Film and Beer Series: Waiter, Scarper!

In this classic comedy, a handsome young bookseller finds himself in a difficult financial situation, manifesting from the high alimony he must pay for his skirt chasing. Being mistaken for a waiter sparks an idea that just might get him out of his jam.
About the Director:
Ladislav Smoljak was born in Prague in 1931 and unsuccessfully applied to Prague’s DAMU (Theatre Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts) in 1952. As a result, he graduated in 1957 with a degree in mathematics and physics and became a teacher. Smoljak’s most profound body of work was started in 1966 when Smoljak, Svěrák, and Šebánek established the famous “Theatre of Jára Cimrman.” Smoljak’s activity as a director, screenwriter, and actor resulted in movies such as Mareček, Pass Me the Pen! (Marečku, podejte mi pero!), Seclusion Near a Forest ( Na samotě u lesa ) and Waiter, Scarper! (Vrchní, prchni!)

About the Series:
This marks the fourth year of the Film and Beer Series at Bistro Bohem. The series this year focuses on the work of acclaimed screenwriter and actor Zdeněk Svěrák, who is renowned for the Oscar-winning film Kolya. All of the films will screen in Czech with English subtitles. Each screening includes one free beer as well as an introduction by a representative from the Czech Embassy. All screenings are subject to change. The screenings take place the third Tuesday of every month.
