Based on the novel of the same name by Tetsuya Honda.

Kaori (Riko Narumi) is a serious and skilled kendo practitioner who considers the great swordsman Musashi Miyamoto to be her hero. Trained by her father since she was three years old, Kaori is the undefeated champion at the junior high level. Until one day she is trounced by the undisciplined Sanae (Kie Kitano) from Tosho Girl's Academy.

Unable to forget the embarrassment of defeat, Kaori enrolls in Tosho Academy and hopes to confront her rival. Much to her irritation, Kaori discovers that Sanae only does kendo "for fun." Determined to learn why she lost to such a casual practitioner, Kaori challenges Sanae to train seriously. As Sanae discovers the joy of playing for keeps, Kaori begins to feel the influence of Sanae's free-spirited approach to life. Will Kaori be able to maintain her will to defeat Sanae in a duel?
