Thaw in US-Cuba Relations: What's Next?
Date : Jul 21, 2015 Time : 6:30PM To 8:00PM Place : University of California Washington Center, 1608 Rhode Island Avenue NW, Washington DC
On April 11, 2015 Barack Obama and Raul Castro met at the Summit of the Americas in Panama, marking the first meeting between United States and Cuban heads of states since the countries severed ties in 1961. On July 1 the US and Cuba announced the reopening of their respective embassies in Washington and Havana for the first time in a half-century. While diplomatic relations are renewed, what is the likelihood that the trade embargo on Cuba will be lifted by Congress? What can be expected of a thawing in relations? Is the thaw positive for the United States and Cuba?
