Ireland in the eye of the economic storm

Join us for an evening with Dan O’Brien, Chief Economist at the Institute of International and European Affairs, Ireland’s leading think tank on European and International Affairs.

IN-DC for is delighted to present a fascinating evening with distinguished Economist Dan O'Brien discussing recent developments to, and the current state of, Ireland’s economic situation. The evening’s conversation will be moderated by Dr. Tom Wright of the Brookings Institution.

Before becoming Chief Economist at IIEA in 2013, Dan was a Senior Research Fellow at the School of Politics and International Relations at University College Dublin, a columnist and regular economic analyst at Independent Newspapers and, prior to that, he was Economics Editor at the Irish Times.

Dan was a Senior Editor at the Economist from 1998 to 2010 and was a consultant to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.  He represented the European Commission Delegation as Political and Economics Affairs Officer in Malta in the 1990s.

Dan will share his insight on how the dramatic economic events of Ireland’s recent past have positioned the country for the immediate future, what Brexit really means for Ireland beyond “Brexit means Brexit” and how Irish interests are preparing for the uncertainty ahead.
