Conversations in Culture: “Cartoons: harmless humour or painful truth?”

Feb 10, 2016

EU Delegation: 2175 K Street, Washington D.C. 20037 (use entrance on 22nd street).

When cultures started clashing over cartoons, cartoonists worldwide woke up.  What is their role in all of this? What does this changing face of cartooning really stand for? Is cartoon culture really threatened by censorship? Is there a Western cartoon culture? Or are there big differences between Europe and the USA – at least when it comes to cartoons? Are cartoonists an endangered species? Are we losing the fight over freedom of speech?  In this program we meet up with Lectrr, a Belgian cartoonist who’s been wrestling with all these questions for years. He hasn’t found the answer yet, but he’ll come and talk about it anyway.

This program is in conjunction with Flanders House New York.
