Lady Maiko | Directed by Masayuki Suo| April 22, 2016

Friday at 6:30PM | 2014 | 135 min | Japanese w. English subtitles | Unrated

From the director of Shall We Dance? and Sumo Do, Sumo Don't comes this My Fair Lady-inspired modern geisha musical!

In the traditional heart of Kyoto, a rough-hewn country girl named Haruko turns up in search of the impossible. In spite of her impenetrable accent (a mix of deep-Southern Kagoshima and Northern Tsugaru), she begs to be given a chance to become the epitome of cultural sophistication: a Kyoto geisha.

She is accepted under the auspices of Kyono, a good-natured professor of linguistics, who rises to the challenge of helping her. Thus begins a roller-coaster ride as Haruko struggles through the harsh training and stern discipline required to be a geisha in this colorful and entertaining musical comedy!
