Brasília, the Capital of Brazil, is a tribute to human will and courage. Built ex nihilo in 1000 glorious days from 1956 to 1960 in the hinterland of Brazil, the city was selected as a "World Heritage Site" by UNESCO in 1987.

After a successful debut at UN headquarters in New York, the temporary exhibition "BRASÍLIA 1957: A 20th CENTURY SAGA" will open to the public in Washington, DC, from December 7, 2017 to January 19, 2018, at the foyer of the Embassy of Brazil. A privileged opportunity for all those who love the art of photography as well as the feats of human determination, the exhibition gives us a unique sense of the personal dimension of Brasília's epic emergence as Brazil's new capital.

The exhibition by award-winning photographer Åke Borglund is made possible thanks to the generous contribution of Brasília's pioneer and collector Mercedes Urquiza, a resident of the new capital since 1957.

You are cordially invited for a special tour of the Exhibition with Mrs. Mercedes Urquiza on Thursday, December 7th, 6PM, when the documentary "The Invention of Brasília" (Renato Barbieri) will also be shown.
