Animezing!: Kimba the White Lion
Part of the JICC's Animation Retrospective
Journey Through Anime: Celebrating 100 Years
Presented by the Japan Information & Culture Center, Embassy of Japan
The classic tale of Kimba the White Lion in this rarely-seen film version of the popular TV series! Based on the manga (comic) by the legendary artist, Tezuka Osamu, known as the “God of Comics” in Japan.
Caesar, a white lion, is king of the jungle in Africa. His dream is to bring peace among the animals of his kingdom. Unfortunately, his reign is cut short and his consort, Snowene, is captured by hunters and put aboard a ship to be sold off. While aboard, she gives birth to a single white cub, Kimba, the heir of Caesar.
Kimba manages to escape from the ship and return to Africa to fulfill his father’s dream. Although his arrival brings joy to many animals in the jungle, not everyone shares Kimba’s vision of cooperation and harmony. Now, the young and untested Kimba must prove himself worthy of being King of the Jungle!
