BEST OF FRENCH TV SHOWS #2: BARON NOIR
2016 - France - 2 episodes of 55 minutes
In French with English subtitles.
The Cultural Services of the French Embassy invites you to discover France’s hottest current TV shows. Whether you are enticed political dramas, action thrillers, or comedies, “Best of French TV Shows” will guide you through the best French TV has to offer!
Come and join us for a special screening of first and second episodes of Baron Noir.
Often described as the “French House of Cards”, Baron Noir focuses on French politician Philippe Rickwaert (Kad Merad) whose career is in shambles after he is betrayed by formermentor Francis Laugier (Niels Arestrup), in an effort to save his presidential campaign. Determined to return the limelight, Rickwaert forges a new alliance with his enemy’s closest advisor. Philippe Rickwaert is willing to do everything in his power, with waning regard for integrity, to satisfy his thirst for vengeance.
Praised by The New York Times for “the way it sheds light on the unexpected current state of French politics,” the success of the series lies both in its realism and the exceptional performance of International Emmy Award nominee Kad Merad. A CANAL+ CREATION ORIGINALE series created by Ziad Doueri and Jean-Baptiste Delafon, Baron Noir is produced by Thomas Delafon for StudioCanal.
This screening is presented in partnership with Walter Presents.
Walter Presents launched January 2016 in the UK as a video-on-demand service and is a joint venture between Channel 4 and Global Series Network, founded by Jason Thorp, Walter Iuzzolino and Jo McGrath. Dedicated to showcasing award-winning foreign language drama, the service is named after its curator Walter Iuzzolino, a passionate drama fan. In March 2017 Walter Presents launched as an SVOD platform in the US with The New York Times hailing it as a ‘chic TV boutique with a foreign accent’. In November 2017 Walter Presents launched in Australia through pay-TV service Foxtel. Walter Presents just launched in Italy, its first roll-out in mainland Europe, on Discovery’s Nove, Giallo and Dplay channels.
