CONCERT | Die Wandervögel

  • Austrian Cultural Forum Washington/Embassy of Austria 3524 International Drive Northwest Northwest Washington, DC, 20008 United States (map)

Die Wandervögel is a one-of-a-kind musical quartet of versatile instrumental and vocal performers, rekindling old, nearly-forgotten songs from the 17th to the 20th century of German, Austrian and Yiddish origins. Adding to this already rich repertoire, they play instrumental music from various cultures that geographically span from Scandinavia to Greece, creating a unique musical experience. The Austrian Cultural Forum Washington is delighted to welcome the four young Austrian musicians to Washington, DC, and to fill our halls with their poetic tunes on December 5.

Bryan Benner (guitar, mandolin, vocals), is a far-travelled baritone singer with American roots who developed a passion for the German lied early on in his life. Brian explores this passion in his second band The Earlkings, for which he translates and re- interprets lieder by Franz Schubert.

David Stellner (guitar, vocals), a well-established musician within the Viennese music scene, dedicated himself entirely to folk and Viennese songs upon graduation in Jazz Guitar, currently touring throughout Europe with Die Wandervögel.

Raphael Widman (violin, vocals) is well acquainted with various styles such as rock or classical music. Despite his childhood violin training, he decided to pick up the guitar and study Jazz.

The trained guitarist and singer Wolgang Schöbitz (double bass, vocals) is constantly looking for new musical adventures, thus picking up the double bass while being part of the band Wanjo Banjo. As the newest addition to Die Wandervögel, Wolfgang keeps on playing bass, expanding his musical horizons.
