Join choreographer Eun-ju Shin and SHIN Dance Company for the first showcase of OnStage Korea’s 2018 season, presented by the KCC, which continues to celebrate the diversity and excellence of Korean performing arts. In their DC premiere, this creative Korean dance group will perform Touching Time, which displays Korean contemporary and signature movement styles while exploring deep themes of Eastern philosophy.
The idea of coexistence between life and death forms the central theme of Touching Time. In the flowing nature of time, the past and future often intersect with the present. Touching Time asks the audience and performers to ponder the significance of life in this context, which is often composed of personal connections and relationships. Choreographer Eun-ju Shin strives to touch this untouchable answer through a modern Korean-style creative dance interpretation that reflects a rapidly changing society by blending tradition, sensual movement, and dynamic physicality.
SHIN Dance Company seeks to invigorate Korean dance through the reinterpretation of Korea’s unique traditions and the creation of new images that reflect them. This harmony of tradition and modernity is at the heart of the company’s goal: to popularize and globalize Korean dance for all audiences. SHIN Dance Company has performed around the world, including as part of the International Contemporary Dance Festival of Panamá in 2015, XVIII Festival Internacional de Danza Extremadura-Lenguaje Contemporáaneo in the 2015 World Ethnic Dance Cultural Fest, Hungary National Theater in 2016, France Toulouse Improvisation Dance Program in 2016, and France-Busan Co-production Project in 2017.
