On August 7th, 1998, two U.S. embassies in Africa suffered coordinated and nearly simultaneous truck bombings later linked to the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda.  Fifty-two U.S. government employees and contractors at U.S. Embassy Nairobi and U.S. Embassy Dar es Salaam were killed.  Following the attacks, survivors pulled together and rebuilt their communities.

In commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the East Africa embassy bombings, the United States Diplomacy Center invites you to join us for a panel discussion with Ambassador Prudence Bushnell, Ambassador John Lange, and other members of the Nairobi and Dar es Salaam embassy communities.  AFSA President Ambassador Barbara Stephenson will serve as moderator for the panel discussion.

In addition, the Diplomacy Center will host a display of artifacts related to the bombings, including items on loan from the National Museum of the Marine Corps, from July 30 through August 17, in the Diplomacy Center Pavilion (HST 21st Street entrance). RSVP by Wednesday, August 1st.
