The exhibition, "The Story of an Image: Bare-Chested Man in front of a Tank," displays photography taken by Ladislav Bielik throughout the spontaneous Czech and Slovak resistance in 1968 during the Warsaw Pact Invasion of the Czechslovak Socialist Republic. It demonstrates the symbolic manner in which the people of the Czechslovak Socialist Republictook center stage and became the primary lead of the intellectual resistance. These photographs provide important evidence and testimony to emerging democracy at the heart of Europe.
Dr. Slavomír Michálek, Director of the Historian Institute of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, will discuss the period of events that occurred in 1968 with an emphasis on the resulting impact of these events.
Doors open at 5:30 pm and close promptly at 6:00 pm.
The event is free, but reservations are required. It is expected to fill up fast.
Please note that this event may be filmed or photographed.
